Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are transforming oral and maxillofacial surgery. They will soon dominate many aspects of practice, including marketing, patient management, scheduling, patient education, informed consent, diagnosis, imaging analysis, surgical planning and some level of surgical performance. Healthcare practitioners and practice managers and owners must understand both the benefits and the legal liabilities associated with AI and ML. This session will analyze AI in oral surgery, covering its benefits, mandates and legal risks. It also will offer tips on avoiding liability and preparing for market-driven transitions.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Recognize the breadth and implementation of AI and ML in the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Discuss and appreciate the legal exposures, now and in the future, for the implementation and use of AI.
Implement policies, protocols and staff management for the elicitation and implementation of AI in all aspects of clinical practice.
