XH01 - Advanced Full-Arch Implant Rehabilitation for the Atrophic Maxilla: Solving Serious Problems Using Zygomatic, Pterygoid, Transnasal and Transpalatal Implants
Thursday, September 18, 2025
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM EDT
Location: Room 145A, Walter E. Washington Convention Center
This course is sold out. Reconstructing the severely resorbed maxilla and mandible, especially in patients with multiple previous failed dental implant attempts and full-arch implant rehabilitation, is the ultimate dental implant challenge. This hands-on session will focus solely on the maxilla. Initially used for large maxillofacial defects, zygomatic implants are now commonly employed in patients with terminal dentition and atrophic maxillary bone to provide implant-retained fixed and removable prostheses. Utilizing the zygomatic bones to anchor the implants, pterygoid, transnasal, and transpalatal implants have since been added as treatment options. This comprehensive, step-by-step session will cover the surgical and presurgical planning, procedures, and protocols for zygomatic, pterygoid, transnasal, and transpalatal implants, including multiple techniques commonly used for their placement.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Select appropriate patients for zygomatic implants, create a treatment plan and successfully place the implants.
Select appropriate patients for pterygoid implants, create a treatment plan and successfully place the implants.
Select appropriate patients for transnasal and transpalatal implants, create a treatment plan and successfully place the implants.
Discuss anatomical and X-ray interpretation as it relates to the evaluation of the atrophic maxilla to select the appropriate type of remote anchorage solutions.
Describe the surgical complications and pitfalls associated with the various types of remote anchorage dental implants.
