Minimally invasive orthognathic surgery (MIOS) has its advantages. Patients undergoing surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE) often require earlier appointments with orthodontic colleagues who prefer to avoid sutures, erythema and swelling. Using hidden incisions in the nares and along the maxillary labial frenum for SARPE is a straightforward introduction into MIOS.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Discuss the concept of MIOS.
Review a transnasal approach technique to perform a SARPE.
Describe the advantages of a transnasal SARPE technique.
