Melissa Mendez is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and Washington. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Clinical Concentration from Purdue University and her Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has had the opportunity to work in and gain knowledge from a diverse collection of settings that include elementary, middle and high school, hospital chaplaincy , private practice and private agency working with families in the child welfare system. She has also facilitated a wide variety of therapeutic support groups ranging in topics from grief to ADHD management. In 2017, Melissa provided her knowledge and experience to co-presenter, Sarah Leath, who was facing a mental health crisis in her own family. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, Melissa takes a systems approach to her work with clients, understanding that we do not exist in a vacuum, but rather are part of larger systems. This approach, along with her experience working with Sarah and the roadblocks she faced trying to get help for her family member, is the driving force behind her partnership with Sarah to educate and provide valuable resources for the dental community to join in the efforts to combat the Unspoken Epidemic.
