Anthony Morlandt, M.D., D.D.S., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Anthony Morlandt is fellowship-trained in head and neck cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction and is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. His oncology practice focuses on surgical treatment of tumors involving the oral cavity and oropharynx, salivary glands, skin of the head and neck, and skull base.
He is director of the sectioon of Oral Oncology at UAB, among the largest oral cancer regional referral programs in the U.S. Southeast.
Along with his clinical duties, Dr. Morlandt serves in several leadership roles. He is the Endowed Peter D. Waite Professor with tenure, and Vice Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In addition, he directs the head and neck oncology and microvascular surgery fellowship program at UAB. Dr. Morlandt holds the position of Medical Quality Officer in UAB Medicine and directs several key quality and safety-related initiatives across the institution. Dr. Morlandt serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Association of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons. Locally, he is a board member of United Ability, an Alabama non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities.
Dr. Morlandt’s research and academic mission is to improve outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer. His current research focuses on the use of prognostic biomarkers in progression of oral dysplasia to cancer. He is U.S. Chief Medical Officer of Proteocyte AI, a Toronto-based company dedicated to ending late- stage oral cancer detection and improving survival through AI-powered predictive analytics. His work has been published in more than 50 scientific articles and book chapters and he has given over 100 invited oral and video presentations. Dr. Morlandt is a Scientist in the Cancer Chemoprevention Program in the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama. In 2015, Dr. Morlandt received the Faculty Educator Development Award of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has been inducted into the American Head and Neck Society and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Association of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons.
