John Button, MOPH is a fourth-year dental student at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, PA.
In May of 2025, John became the inaugural graduate of the Master of Science in Oral and Population Health (MOPH) program through the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health (CIGOH) at Penn Dental Medicine, where he completed his thesis with honors on the oro-facial gangrene noma. He graduated from Tufts University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and French. John is an outspoken advocate for global oral health whose interests include oral and maxillofacial surgery, noma, and epidemiology.
John sits on the advisory committee of the International Noma Network, a global consortium of noma and oral health researchers, where he serves as an oral health ambassador and French translator. John's current research spans sinus augmentation surgeries alongside dental implantology in the VA hospital system and noma epidemiology. He is also a collaborator with, and French translator for, numerous oral health researchers across the globe. John is regularly invited to lecture on oral health diplomacy and noma epidemiology.
