Diagnosing and managing vascular malformations in children can be challenging. By understanding their pathways for development, utilizing an accurate diagnosis and assembling the right team, this complex patient population can be managed effectively. This session will discuss the development and management of various types of vascular malformations in the growing child with focus on arteriovenous malformations. It also will review updates in the literature on the management and development of these lesions and suggest a team-based algorithm for their management.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Describe the various types of vascular malformations and discuss their developmental origins.
  2. Apply current research to the management of vascular lesions in the pediatric population.
  3. Demonstrate the need for multidisciplinary care for pediatric patients with vascular lesions.
  4. Describe the challenges that are unique to managing pediatric patients with vascular lesions.
