Although most patients cite a change in occlusion as the reason for seeking orthognathic surgery, many also desire an esthetic change. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons have the unique ability to not only improve a patient’s function but also to modify the harmony of the facial features. This plenary will demonstrate how to integrate artistic vision with surgical precision in order to optimize esthetic orthognathic outcomes.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Assess and identify the indications for esthetic orthognathic surgery in patients considering both functional and esthetic factors.
  2. Create individualized treatment plans for patients by integrating clinical findings, imaging and patient preferences.
  3. Select surgical techniques for esthetic orthognathic procedures, understanding their advantages and limitations, and preventing complications throughout the surgical process.
