Dr. Sean Peel is medtech scientist, and entrepreneur with 25+ years’ experience building and leading teams in clinical product development in both start-up and established organizations. After obtaining a Ph.D. in Oral Biology examining the titanium bone interface and he then performed postdoctoral research in tissue engineering involving cartilage regeneration. He then entered industry then joined GenSci Regeneration Sciences Inc where he was responsible for the evaluation of various tissue-based devices for bone repair. During this time, he spent a year at UCLA working on bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs). During this time he continued his scientific work at the University of Toronto before being recruited to Osteopharm Inc. There he lead a team of 4 scientists and technicians and managed both the in-house and external preclinical development of a peptide therapeutic. He was also responsible for establishing a diagnostics program. Dr Peel then worked as a consultant managing various projects including technical due diligence covering areas of product development, clinical strategy, and market potential, managing research projects and decommissioning a research facility.
In 2008 Dr. Peel cofounded Induce Biologics Inc, serving as CSO, managing the development, early-stage manufacturing and non clinical testing of growth factor based bioimplants for tissue regeneration. In 2017 he joined OBIO to start their Health to Business Bridge internship program, which helps companies’ source, train and mentor business trained interns and recent graduates. In 2020 he joined Red Rock Regeneration Inc. as CSO managing the product development and clinical evidence teams. We launched our Natural Matrix Protein bioimplants in 2022, which has been used in over 15,000 surgeries to date. Dr Peel is also an Assistant Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a member of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Toronto. He has authored or co-authored over 40 research articles and 4 book chapters and has been an inventor on 8 families of patents (5 of the families have patents granted in various countries).
